FAQs

Getting started

  • Yes. Whether you are an experienced landscaper or just starting out, we have roles to suit. We look for people with a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a commitment to our values: safety and quality, integrity and accountability, collaboration and passion, relationships, and commitment to delivery.

  • Yes, you can still apply. A driver licence is not required for every role, but it is recommended because:

    • It makes getting to work more convenient
    • Some roles involve travelling between sites
    • Certain machinery can only be operated with a valid licence

Where a licence is required, it will be listed in the role details.

  • There are several pathways into Leathwood:

    • Entry level roles: no formal qualifications are needed to get started. To work on a construction site you will need a General Construction Induction Card (White Card), which is a short one day course.
    • Skilled roles: some positions require relevant qualifications, tickets or licences. These are set out in each role listing.
    • Earn while you learn: our paid apprenticeships let you gain a nationally recognised qualification while earning a wage.

Whatever your starting point, there is a pathway for you.

  • Yes. We welcome applications from Working Holiday Visa holders and other eligible visa holders for casual positions, particularly during our busier warmer months.

Before you start, we will verify your visa status and work rights so that everything is in order for a smooth onboarding.

Apprenticeships and work experience

  • Yes. Our apprenticeships run over four years, and we aim to have you signed off as qualified within three. A Leathwood apprenticeship lets you earn while you learn:

    • Hands on experience on commercial landscape sites
    • A nationally recognised qualification
    • Paid time for both on site work and classroom training

Who can apply: you need to be 15 years or older, an Australian citizen or permanent resident, and have parent or guardian consent if you are under 18. No previous experience is needed, just a genuine interest in outdoor work. We welcome school leavers, career changers, mature age learners and school based apprentices.

How to apply: apply through the Open roles section. We review every application, invite suitable candidates to an interview, and typically make offers within two weeks.

  • Yes. We offer work experience placements through schools and registered training organisations (RTOs). To get started, submit your school's official work experience form to your nearest office and give us at least four weeks' notice to arrange your placement.

We will need a few details:

    1. Your location, so we can match you with the right site
    2. Your transport plan
    3. Your availability for early starts (6:30am in summer, 7:30am in winter)
    4. Your preferred dates

We welcome students throughout the year.

  • No. For the safety and wellbeing of all candidates, we do not offer job trials. Everyone who joins our team completes our safety training and induction before starting work, so that everyone on site is properly prepared and protected.

Applying

  • Visit the Open roles section to explore all current openings and submit your application online. You can search by keyword and filter by location and category.

  • Here is what to expect:

    1. Initial assessment, within seven business days. Submit your application and complete a short role fit questionnaire, and our People and Operations team will be in touch.
    2. Interview, within one to two weeks. Shortlisted candidates are invited to an interview: a chance to learn more about the role and tell us your story.
    3. Final steps. Reference checks, your required compliance documents and our safety induction.

Once these steps are complete, you will be ready to start in your new role.

  • Our People and Operations team aims to review and respond to every application within seven business days.

Working at Leathwood

  • Our standard working day is 6:30am to 2:30pm in summer and 7:30am to 3:30pm in winter. Hours can vary by location and role.

    • Early starts mean you work through the cooler part of the day
    • You finish early, leaving your afternoons free
  • We have offices in Macquarie Park, NSW and Ormeau, QLD. Our site teams work across client sites in Greater Sydney and regional NSW, and across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and South East Queensland.

  • Yes. As we grow, we look to promote from within. Many of our roles have a clear pathway, for example from apprentice to qualified tradesperson, leading hand, crew leader and supervisor, and we support our people with training to get there.
